My name is Karen Kinne.
Thanks for checking out my website. You will not be disappointed. And yes... they are all created with flowers.
Welcome to this, my second act of life, where I am living by the motto, "Everything old is new again!" And, if I may say so myself, I. am. killing it. I am a self-described late blooming Artist; Equal Rights Advocate; and Social Justice Warrior. I create detailed images made from recycled flowers. I use flowers I find on my urban walks, hikes and from the occasional discarded grocery store bouquet.
It's taken me years to develop my art and style. Not all flowers can be used to create my images; and I prefer if they are already beginning to dry. I prepare the flowers the old fashioned way and press them between the pages of books. Lots and lots of books. I am an re/upcycler. The first books I used were Harlequin Romance paperbacks because they were free and I could get a lot of them!
It all began with an old Aussie named Izzy and the need for an Alice in Wonderland style birthday card. Izzy needed her walks and I needed something to make a cool card. I have spent years searching, gathering, drying and pressing flowers. The Ocean series is my favorite.
I hope you enjoy my art as much as I have enjoyed creating it
